Short Title: Cungulla Wetland

Cungulla Wetland Cleanup and Weed Control

Location: Cungulla - Boatshed Creek area (a tributary of Doughboy Creek)

Organisation: Cungulla Recreational Fishing and Social Club Inc.

Project Summary:

Coastal wetland and woodland buffers in the Cungulla area have been degraded from unauthorised access, illegal dumping, weed spread and feral pigs. One of these areas is on State Land (Lot 7 on AP13574) adjoining the Cungulla township.

The opportunity exists to develop a management plan for the area in conjunction with the landowner (DERM) and the Cungulla Community. The initial vision is to commence the rehabilitation process for the site with a view to the area becoming a community facility for passive recreation i.e. walking and nature observation.

Issues Being Addressed:

- Misuse of coastal wetlands and associated woodlands and dunal systems

Involved Parties :

- Cungulla Recreational Fishing and Social Club

- Townsville City Council

- Department of Environment and Resource Management
