A combined Townsville Council, State Government, Commonwealth and community based initiative to maintain and enhance our waterways in the coastal dry tropics. |
Increasing Community Engagement in Townsville Coastal Catchments for Biodiversity Project |
Short Title: Horseshoe Bay School |
Horseshoe Bay School Environmental Reserve |
Location: Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island |
Organisation: Creek to Coral |
Project Summary: The Environmental Reserve at Horseshoe Bay is an example of native habitat in the urban setting that co-exists with urban infrastructure. The old Horseshoe Bay school house is situated on the reserve and has been used for community purposes in the past. The reserve has been impacted by weeds that have escaped from urban gardens and these are now in the small creek that passes through the reserve. This project will remove the majority of the invasive weeds from the creek system and riparian area and restore the native habitat to its previous condition |
