A combined Townsville Council, State Government, Commonwealth and community based initiative to maintain and enhance our waterways in the coastal dry tropics. |
Increasing Community Engagement in Townsville Coastal Catchments for Biodiversity Project |
Short Title: Rowes Bay Foreshore |
Title: Rowes Bay to Pallarenda Foreshore Habitat Management |
Location: Rowes Bay foreshore and coastal catchments |
Organisation:Creek to Coral |
Project Summary: The foreshore is
public land managed for the community by Townsville City Council.
The Rowes Bay
foreshore has been degraded and restored over time usually on a reactive basis
e.g. responding to storms and cyclone damage, and as project funding becomes
available. A pre-emptive approach would accelerate the rate of regeneration of
native coastal vegetation and more quickly reduce the resources required for
maintaining this community natural asset.
Creek to Coral is
developing a foreshore habitat restoration and management plan that can be
implemented in part by community members as part of relaxation therapy.
If you are after a bit of exercise with a
purpose you can join other community minded people to help regenerate native
vegetation and bring back some habitat in Townsville’s nearest, near natural
coastal catchment.
Zen Weeding is the Creek to Coral weed
management learning through action program currently being developed.
Zen Weeding raises our consciousness of
native vegetation and introduced plants so we can go Zen Weeding at any time to
help restore native habitat and keep the sand on our dunes and beaches.
Creek to Coral will assist aspiring Zen
Weeders master the consciousness levels required to restore the delicate
coastal habitat ecological balance. Zen weeding relaxes and restores at the
same time.
Combine some Zen Weeding with a bike ride to
the Town Common Conservation Park.
